Middle Spaces

We usually define a neighborhood by paying attention to the front and the back of houses.  As I moved into a suburban subdivision of Charlottesville Virginia in 2018, I was struck by the close relationship of the tightly knit houses and the middle spaces.  These in-between spaces where two structures met yet were apart delineated a feeling of intimate separation and inquiry.
